Sangita Taping Policy
AUDIENCE RECORDING is always allowed and is highly encouraged. This is
usually the way to get the best mix on a recording with minimal set-up, so it
is ideal. Of course, always be considerate of those around you and use
common sense. As a general rule, mic stands must be shorter than those
behind it. Bring portable gear (no big decks or mixers) and your own power
supply, we can't help you with AC power.
SOUNDBOARD RECORDING is allowed at shows where the house mix includes all of
the instruments on stage. Bring the necessary adapters and connectors and
cables to get your patch. AC power may be made available in order to conserve
disposable batteries, but tapers should pack a set of batteries in case it is
not available.
PHOTOGRAPHY is allowed, however Sangita asks that for the sake of the
performance that a flash not be used. We suggest that you use a high speed
film. If you would like to have your pictures put on the website for
everyone to see, you can e-mail them to webmaster@thesangitagroup.com.
Please do not send pictures through snail mail.
VIDEO TAPING will be allowed only on a per-show basis with prior consent from
the band. We recommend that you contact archivist@thesangitagroup.com prior
to the show to get permission. This will be strictly enforced, so please ask
first for your sake and ours.
Depending on the policies of the particular venue, our rules may change. We
will work with the clubs to make sure our tapers are taken care of, but
please be aware that there may some circumstances in which no taping will be
allowed.
Distribution of live recordings
Sangita allows audio recording of their live shows for non-commercial home
use only. Any resale or use of live concert tapes for commercial gain without
explicit written permission of Sangita or its agent is strictly prohibited.
Please DO NOT circulate recordings in a lossy format (ie mp3s). Shorten
files (.shn) compress the original .wav files without sacrificing sound
quality. You can find an easy to use program for .shn files at
http://www.etree.org/mkw.html.
Archive.org has a section set up for live recordings of Sangita, and we
recommend that if you plan to upload to the internet, do so to this site.
